Lonely Planet

Art Director, 2013-2018

Lonely Planet is the world’s largest publisher of travel information born in Melbourne, Australia. I was the first hire for Lonely Planet’s Nashville office and tasked with building up a marketing design team. In my stint at Lonely Planet I led the effort to rebrand our marketing aesthetic for print materials, online ads and video. I also created a pipeline for fulfilling marketing design needs across our 6 global offices, and along the way gave creative direction to our B2B, video and mobile teams.

Guides app promo

To promote the release of our new travel companion app “Guides” (designed by Metalab) I wrote the script for this piece and hopped a plane to Instanbul to direct it. Possibly the most work I’ve ever put into 1 minute and 30 seconds worth of footage.

Guides landing page

Landing page design for our flagship app ‘Guides’.

Explore every day

During my tenure in marketing we rebranded our language around a new tagline “Explore every day”. This is a little piece that I art directed with some or our best footage pulls to celebrate the launch of the new tagline.

Guides promo 2

For a more affordable follow-up to our first Guides promo I art directed this piece, shot on a green screen in-house. No airplane required.

Fast Talk

Launched with the release of iOS7 I designed this app with 2 developers and art directed this shoestring promo. The aesthetic of the app is pretty dated now, but it sure seemed cool in 2013.

Best in travel

Lonely Planet’s largest marketing effort of the year is the “Best in Travel” campaign. These featured promotional videos, like this one, that I art directed as well as a giant package of internationalized ads for all of our partners.
